Membership is limited to direct lineal descendants (daughters, granddaughters, great granddaughters, etc.) of honorably discharged soldiers and sailors who served in the Union Army, Navy or Marine Corps and Revenue Cutter Service during the Rebellion of 1861-1865, and those who died or were killed while serving in the armed services of the Union between April 12, 1861 and April 9, 1865.
The minimum age for membership is eight, and applicants must provide proof of their ancestor's Civil War service, as well as documentation of birth, marriage and death for each generation. DUVCW reserves the right to determine acceptability of all service and proof thereof.
Applicants may apply to join a specific Tent or as a Member-at-Large. The application fee is $15 and yearly dues varies by Tent. All members receive free subscriptions to their Department and National General Orders (each e-mailed three times a year), and are invited to attend their annual State and National conventions.
This map highlights where the New York Tents are located. If you would like to apply for membership in the DUVCW, please contact us at webmaster at nyduvcw.org, and someone from the NY Department will contact you.
If you are not a direct female descendant of a Union veteran, there are other organizations you may be eligible to join. Please visit our Allied Orders page for more details.
If you are not sure whether or not you have a Union ancestor, or would like some pointers on locating Civil War records, please check out our Civil War Research tips (in the menu above).
